Dr. Pieters grew up in Venezuela, where she obtained her DVM degree in 2003 at Universidad Central de Venezuela. She then completed a PhD at the University of Minnesota, College of Veterinary Medicine in 2008. After her PhD she completed a post-doctorate degree in 2010 at the University of Illinois's Institute for Genomic Biology. Dr. Pieters currently works in the Department of Veterinary Population Medicine and the Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory at the University of Minnesota, as well as being an assistant professor and currently leading the Swine Diseases Eradication Center (SDEC) . Her research interests include: Mycoplasma infections in pigs: diagnosis, epidemiology and control; infectious diseases of swine; pig neonatal immunity.
